SHS CTE Pathway Selection

Service High Class of 2028 will be the first class to go through the Academies of Service. This year they took the Freshman Academy Career Exploration course in semester 1. During that course they explored many career pathways in Alaska, they attended the Career Expo on October 4th, and on January 31st they will attend a UAA tour. The next step in the process will be to choose their Career Pathway for 10-12th grade. On January 10th they will complete a survey to choose their Pathway for next year. Students will be able to see their Pathway on January 21st on Student Connect.

Pathway Selection and Course Request Timeline

January 6th Email Notification of CTE Pathway plan sent to 9th grade families
January 10th Pathway presentations and selection in Alaska Studies courses
January 13th Counselors will conduct make up presentations for absent students
January 21st and 22nd Online Course Request for 25/26 school year presentations in Alaska Studies courses
January 23rd-January 30th Counselors will conduct make up presentations for absent students
January 21st- January 31st Online Course Request Window for current freshmen
February 1st-May 21st Changes to CTE Pathway can be made by filling out the Change of Pathway Survey. Changes to Elective Requests should be sent to your student's counselor to enter with the heading "Course Request Change."

CTE Pathway Presentation

CTE Pathway presentation was given in Alaska Studies classes January 8th-January 13th. The survey link was closed on January 13th. To make changes to your pathway, please contact your counselor. The Pathway Presentation slides, Pathway Course Descriptions, and Pathway Selection Form can be viewed by clicking the buttons below. * The initial Pathway selection survey is now closed. If students would like to change their pathway they need to click on the Change to Pathway Request button or scan the QR code. This request will be open until the last day of school.

As this is our first time going through the process of Pathway selection many questions are coming up. This section will be updated regularly as we get questions about the process

How do I find out what Pathway my student selected on the survey?
- Students survey responses were automatically sent to the email they entered. Students were also given a copy of the 10th Grade Pathway Selection Form where they could mark down their choices.
How does my student find out what Pathway they will be in?
- Counselors will be entering Pathway courses onto the student's course requests. They will be able to see those classes when the Online Course Request Window opens on January 21st. If a student does not complete the survey or indicates No Pathway, none will be entered for them.
Who gets the information from the Pathway survey on Jan 10th?
- Only Service High Principals and Counselors will have access to the survey.
How is the information from the Pathway survey on Jan 10th used?
- The information from the survey is only used to determine which Pathway a student will attend next year. If a student does not complete the survey or indicates No Pathway, none will be entered for them.
How does my student select a Pathway if they didn't fill out the survey?
- They just need to see their counselor to fill out a paper copy of the Pathway Selection Form and then a Pathway will be added.
What if my student doesn't want one of the Pathway options or doesn't have space in their schedule?
- They can either indicate that they have two year long electives already or that they are choosing an Alternative Course Plan because they are looking at other elective options.
How does my student change their Pathway after the survey is completed?
- They just need to see their counselor to indicate which Pathway they want to switch to.
Can my student drop their Pathway class next year if they don't like the program?
- Yes student will be able to drop their Pathway class during the first week of school or at semester. They will meet with their counselor to decide which elective to place in that period.
Will my student be able to switch Pathways for their junior year?
- Yes during the Spring Semester, students will be able to request a change to a different Pathway.
